Job Overview

The Benefits and Payroll Administrator is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely administration of employee benefits and payroll programs. This role serves as a key resource for employees regarding benefits, payroll, leave administration, and HRIS-related inquiries while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The position requires strong experience with benefits administration, payroll processing, compliance, and HRIS/HCM systems.

Responsibilities

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.

  • Manage benefit information within vendor portals and Paylocity HCM.

  • Coordinate benefit carrier connections and maintain accurate employee benefit records.

  • Guide employees and managers on benefit eligibility, plan provisions, and related questions.

  • Conduct benefits orientation sessions for new employees.

  • Coordinate monthly benefit billing, reconciliation, and payments.

  • Support annual open enrollment, including employee communication, validation, and system testing.

  • Assist with benefit plan design changes and implementation.

  • Manage relationships and coordination with benefit vendors and carriers.

  • Support benefits audits, HR projects, reporting, and employee communications.

  • Monitor benefit trends and recommend process improvements.

Payroll Administration

  • Process bi-weekly and off-cycle payroll accurately and on schedule.

  • Maintain employee payroll records, including tax withholding, direct deposit, and earnings information.

  • Review and audit timekeeping records, wage calculations, deductions, and payroll reports.

  • Support payroll tax filings and other required payroll reporting.

  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and auditing.

  • Ensure payroll processes comply with wage and hour laws and applicable tax regulations.

  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of sensitive employee information.

Leave and Compliance Administration

  • Support absence and leave administration, including Workers' Compensation, COBRA, STD/LTD, FMLA, and PFML.

  • Ensure compliance with FLSA, ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.

  • Assist employees with leave-related questions and documentation.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate payroll and benefits processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of benefits administration experience.

  • Experience processing payroll and administering employee benefit programs.

  • Strong knowledge of payroll, wage and hour, and employee benefits regulations.

  • Experience with FMLA, PFML, COBRA, Workers' Compensation, STD/LTD, and other leave programs.

  • Experience managing benefit enrollments, vendor relationships, billing, and open enrollment.

  • Experience with HRIS/HCM systems; Paylocity experience is highly preferred.

  • Experience with complex benefit programs, including self-insured plans and plan design changes.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information.

  • Experience in a non-union manufacturing environment is preferred.
