We are seeking an experienced tax professional to become an important part of a growing local public accounting firm serving Eastern Iowa communities. The right candidate will have the opportunity to develop direct client relationships, take on increasing responsibility, mentor less-experienced staff, and participate in the continued growth of the firm.

Position Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work directly with clients and be responsible for a variety of tax, accounting, and advisory services, including:

  • Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, corporations, S corporations, partnerships, trusts, and other entities.

  • Provide tax planning and advisory services to individuals and businesses.

  • Perform tax research and analysis and communicate recommendations to clients.

  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.

  • Prepare financial statements and other financial information for business clients.

  • Prepare financial projections and assist clients with business planning.

  • Assist clients with accounting and QuickBooks-related questions and issues.

  • Represent clients before federal and state taxing authorities when necessary.

  • Review work prepared by less-experienced staff and provide guidance and feedback.

  • Mentor and help develop junior accountants.

  • Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines, particularly during tax season.

  • Identify opportunities to provide additional services and add value to client relationships.

  • Participate in the continued development and growth of the firm.

Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced tax professional who can work independently while also being a collaborative member of the team.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • 3-5+ years of public accounting and tax preparation experience.

  • CPA, EA, or significant progress toward obtaining a CPA or EA designation.

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns.

  • Experience with tax planning and research.

  • Strong accounting and financial statement knowledge.

  • Proficiency with tax preparation software, Microsoft Excel, and QuickBooks.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of client assignments.

  • Professional demeanor and a commitment to providing excellent client service.

  • Willingness to mentor and develop less-experienced team members.
