CNC Machinist - Large Format / Multi-Axis

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to work on large-format and complex machining projects using vertical, horizontal, and multi-axis CNC equipment.

The work primarily involves large, one-off and low-volume components. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of a job from programming and setup through machining and final inspection.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys solving problems and working on challenging parts that require creative setups, careful planning, and strong machining judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate large-format CNC vertical, horizontal, and multi-axis machining centers

  • Program CNC equipment using Fanuc, Siemens, and Heidenhain controls

  • Utilize Mastercam and PowerMill CAM software

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, tolerances, and specifications

  • Plan machining sequences, workholding, tooling, and setups

  • Establish work coordinates and accurately indicate and align large or irregular workpieces

  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies

  • Inspect work using standard precision measuring equipment

  • Verify dimensions and maintain required tolerances throughout the machining process

  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, and setup issues

  • Work with machinists, management, and engineering to determine practical approaches to challenging jobs

  • Maintain a safe, organized work area and properly care for machines and tooling

Qualifications

Experience in any of the following is especially valuable:

  • Large-format CNC mills and horizontal machining centers

  • 4-axis or 5-axis machining

  • Complex or unconventional setups

  • One-off and low-volume machining

  • Machining existing components where dimensions must be established from the part

  • Working with large castings, weldments, or fabricated components

  • CAM programming
