CNC Mill Setup Machinist / Operator

A premier precision machining and manufacturing facility is seeking a skilled and dependable CNC Mill Setup Machinist / Operator to join its milling operations. This full-time role is responsible for executing independent setups, fine-tuning programs, and producing high-precision machined components to exacting customer specifications.

The ideal candidate brings strong machining problem-solving skills, solid blueprint-reading expertise, and proven experience setting up vertical or horizontal milling centers.

Core Responsibilities

• Perform complete mechanical and tooling setups on CNC milling centers, including loading tools, establishing workholding fixtures, setting part zeroes, and entering tool offsets.

• Review and edit G-code/M-code programs at the machine interface to optimize cutting performance, tool life, and cycle times.

• Operate across industry-standard control platforms such as Fanuc, Haas, and Okuma (proficiency with Fanuc is highly valued).

• Read and interpret complex engineering prints, process sheets, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) specifications.

• Perform first-piece and in-process dimensional quality checks using precision metrology equipment to verify adherence to tight tolerances.

• Identify tooling wear, resolve setup discrepancies, and perform minor adjustments and routine preventative maintenance on milling equipment.

• Maintain an organized, clean workspace and uphold all company safety policies and quality standards.

Candidate Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of direct experience setting up and operating CNC milling machines within a precision machine shop or manufacturing environment.

• CNC Controls: Proven proficiency with Fanuc CNC controls (experience with Haas or Okuma controls is also beneficial).

• G-Code Editing: Practical ability to read, edit, and troubleshoot CNC code at the control.

• Technical Skills: Strong blueprint interpretation skills and a solid grasp of tight-tolerance manufacturing requirements.

• Tools & Inspection: Candidates should possess their own standard precision hand inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, dial test indicators, and basic hand tools); the facility supplies all specialized inspection equipment (including dial bore gauges, depth gauges, and form gauges).

• Attributes: Strong analytical and shop math skills, high attention to detail, and a consistent record of reliability, punctuality, and professional references.
