Commercial Insurance Account Manager (Strategic Portfolios)

A well-regarded independent insurance brokerage is seeking an experienced Commercial Insurance Account Manager to oversee and grow a mature book of mid-to-large commercial and executive client accounts (speciality package programs - majority: liability for Dentists).

In this consultative role, you will serve as the primary advisor to C-suite leaders and business owners, steering renewal strategy, evaluating commercial risk exposures, and identifying strategic coverage opportunities. You will be supported by a dedicated back-office team of Producers, Account Associates/CSRs, and regional carrier underwriters, allowing you to focus on high-impact client engagement and portfolio performance.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Account Management & Advisory

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of premier corporate clients.

  • Conduct structured annual and mid-term risk reviews to evaluate organizational changes, operational exposures, and emerging coverage requirements.

  • Advise key stakeholders on carrier appetites, market conditions, and tailored risk management strategies.

  • Address and resolve elevated client inquiries, claims escalations, and technical policy questions with speed and professionalism.

Renewal Leadership & Retention Strategy

  • Lead the end-to-end renewal cycle for assigned accounts, managing marketing submissions and policy negotiations with carrier partners.

  • Compare quotes, terms, and policy wording to present competitive placement options and coverage enhancements to clients.

  • Maintain a target retention rate of 95%+ across the assigned client base.

Portfolio Growth & Expansion

  • Identify coverage gaps and present relevant multi-line products and endorsements across commercial property, casualty, executive liability, and related commercial lines.

  • Partner with production leadership to achieve year-over-year organic book growth benchmarks of 105%+ through cross-selling and account rounding.

Operations & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date client files, documentation, and activity logs within the agency management system.

  • Ensure all policy delivery, endorsement processing, and billing adhere to internal quality standards, state insurance department regulations, and carrier binding guidelines.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience managing and servicing mid-to-large commercial lines accounts within an independent brokerage or agency environment.

  • Licensing: Active State Property & Casualty (P&C) License required; Life & Health / Variable licenses are required as well but not needed upfront.

  • Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of standard and non-standard commercial coverages (General Liability, Commercial Property, Workers' Compensation, Commercial Auto, Umbrella/Excess, and Management Liability).

  • Technology Skills: Proficiency with industry Agency Management Systems (e.g., Applied Epic, AMS360, HawkSoft, or EZLynx) and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Communication & Problem Solving: Polished verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead executive-level client presentations and negotiate with carrier underwriters.
