Dental Assistant (DA/RDA)

Full-Time or Part-Time | Port Huron & New Haven, MI | Monday-Thursday

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional chairside and four-handed dental assistance

  • Assist with general and surgical dental procedures

  • Take dental X-rays and diagnostic images

  • Prepare and position patients for treatment

  • Prepare, sterilize and reset operatories

  • Set up instruments, trays, materials and equipment

  • Assist with impressions, models and laboratory procedures

  • Document patient information in electronic records

  • Provide patient education and post-treatment instructions

  • Follow infection-control and OSHA standards

  • Maintain supplies and clinical workflow

  • Collaborate with dentists, hygienists and other clinical staff

  • Provide compassionate care to diverse and underserved patient populations

RDA Responsibilities

For appropriately credentialed RDAs, expanded functions may include:

  • Temporary crowns

  • Sealants

  • Final impressions

  • Class I restorations

  • Other legally permitted expanded functions

Class I restoration experience is preferred but not required. Refresher training may be available for less frequently performed RDA functions.

Non-RDA candidates must work within the applicable Michigan DA scope of practice and organizational policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of a recognized Dental Assistant program

  • Previous hands-on dental assisting experience

  • Dental X-ray/radiography certification or authorization as required

  • Strong chairside and patient-care skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

  • Computer/EHR or dental software experience

  • Knowledge of infection-control procedures

  • Ability to work independently in a busy dental environment

  • BLS/CPR preferred; BLS can be obtained after hire

  • RDA/CDA credentials preferred

Position Options

Full-Time

  • 40 hours/week

  • Works across Port Huron and New Haven with the dentist

  • Monday-Thursday

Part-Time

  • Approximately 20 hours/week

  • One assistant primarily based in Port Huron

  • One assistant primarily based in New Haven

  • Occasional travel between locations may be required for coverage

Schedule

Port Huron

  • Monday: 6:30 AM-5:00 PM

  • Tuesday: 8:30 AM-7:00 PM

New Haven

  • Wednesday & Thursday: 6:30 AM-5:00 PM

Schedules are generally fixed, but all employees must have some flexibility to travel to the other location when coverage is needed.

Compensation

  • DA: $20.14-$24.00/hour, based on experience and credentials

  • RDA: Separate pay scale based on qualifications

  • Candidates must be comfortable with the established compensation range
