We are seeking a hands-on Food Safety & QA Manager to lead food safety, quality assurance, sanitation, and regulatory compliance across the company's growing and packing operations.
This is an active, on-site position for a food safety professional who is comfortable working directly with operations teams, conducting floor inspections, maintaining food safety programs, preparing for audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
The Food Safety & QA Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for third-party audits and regulatory inspections and will own the site's food safety and quality programs.
Manage and continuously improve food safety and quality assurance programs across growing and packing operations.
Maintain and update SOPs, HACCP plans, food safety plans, and related documentation.
Lead preparation for and participate in third-party GFSI audits, with strong preference for PrimusGFS experience.
Serve as the primary facility contact during customer, third-party, state, and federal inspections.
Develop and implement Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) and follow through to resolution.
Conduct daily facility walk-throughs, pre-operational inspections, sanitation verification, and GMP/GAP monitoring.
Oversee environmental monitoring, including swabbing, water sampling, and product testing, and maintain accurate laboratory records.
Manage traceability, mock recalls, lot tracking, harvest records, and mass-balance documentation.
Partner with production, harvesting, packing, and sanitation teams to ensure proper cleaning procedures, chemical titrations, hygiene practices, and sanitation records.
Ensure compliance with FDA FSMA, GMPs, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture requirements, and applicable organic standards.
Provide food safety, hygiene, GMP, and sanitation training to employees and operational teams.
Identify food safety and quality risks and work with management to implement preventive and corrective actions.
Maintain audit readiness and ensure food safety records are accurate, current, and complete.
3-5+ years of hands-on food safety or quality assurance experience in fresh produce, agriculture, food processing, food manufacturing, or a packinghouse environment.
Experience with third-party GFSI audits, such as PrimusGFS, SQF, or BRC.
HACCP certification required, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
PCQI certification preferred.
Working knowledge of FDA FSMA, GMPs, sanitation, environmental monitoring, traceability, and food safety programs.
Experience with agricultural or fresh produce operations strongly preferred.
Familiarity with Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO) or USDA organic handling requirements is a plus.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Agricultural Science, Biology, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.
Strong documentation, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work directly with production and sanitation personnel and influence food safety practices on the floor.
Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a strong plus.
This is an on-site, hands-on role.
Must be comfortable spending significant time on your feet and walking through growing rooms, production areas, packing lines, and sanitation areas.
Must be comfortable working alongside operations personnel in an agricultural/food production environment.
