Job Summary
Seeking an experienced EHS/Safety professional to support ship repair operations in a shipyard environment. The role assists with daily safety inspections, accident investigations, employee and subcontractor training, safety audits, regulatory compliance, and workplace hazard evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Safety Manager with daily safety inspections onboard vessels and throughout the shipyard and facility.
Conduct accident investigations, safety studies, and recommend corrective actions.
Implement and conduct employee safety and health training programs, including annual safety training.
Perform weekly safety audits of vessels, facilities, and drydock operations.
Test, calibrate, and operate safety testing equipment; interpret results and inspect, test, and evaluate vessel spaces.
Determine when additional evaluation by a Certified Marine Chemist is required.
Coordinate with personnel to ensure compliance with company safety policies, contract safety requirements, and state and federal regulations.
Conduct safety training for subcontractors.
Complete incident reports for all workplace injuries.
Support the Safety Manager with overall safety programs and ship repair operations.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in a safety-focused role; shipyard or ship repair experience preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge of vessel structure, locations, and spaces is a plus.
Strong knowledge of current OSHA standards.
Basic computer skills.
Must have or be able to obtain Shipyard Competent Person Certification.
Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.
Ability to work a rotational schedule, including Monday through Sunday, 7:00 AM-4:30 PM.
Strong communication, observation, investigation, and safety-compliance skills.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Ability to squat, stand, climb ladders, and enter/exit confined spaces, tanks, and voids.
Ability to walk long distances across large vessels and shipyard facilities.
Ability to conduct inspections in active shipyard and marine environments.
Ability to wear required PPE and perform safety-related field duties.
