Seven hundred people. Ten states. Nine operating companies. Install crews, manufacturing staff, engineers, corporate teams and a large independent sales network - every one of them onboarded, paid, enrolled, documented and compliant, every pay period, without drama.
That is this job. When it is done well nobody notices. When it is done badly, everybody does.
We are looking for the person who wants to own it properly.
We are building the residential energy infrastructure required for the AI era. We install thousands of residential solar-plus-storage systems a year, and operate across 10 states with over 700 employees. We are equity-backed and comprise nine wholly owned subsidiaries spanning core technology, sales and installation, and finance and insurance.
We are growing quickly, and our people infrastructure needs to grow with it - with more structure, better systems and less manual work.
The employee lifecycle
Onboarding and offboarding across nine operating companies, at the volume a fast-growing installation business generates
Employment documentation, I-9s, personnel files, and the discipline that keeps them accurate and audit-ready
Employee changes - transfers, promotions, status changes - processed accurately and on time, every time
The employee experience of every administrative touchpoint. People should never have to chase HR for an answer.
Benefits administration
Benefits administration and open enrollment: medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA and 401(k)
Leave administration and the tracking that goes with it
Workers' compensation administration for field and production teams
Multi-state compliance
Employment compliance across 10 states - registrations, posting requirements, wage and hour rules, and the differences between them
Worker classification documentation and the records that support it
EEO, ACA and other statutory reporting
Keeping us current as we enter new states, before we enter them
Systems and automation
Own our HRIS as the system of record - we run Paycom - and make it genuinely reliable
Build the reporting our operating company leaders actually need: headcount, turnover, time to fill, cost per hire
Replace manual processes with automated ones. We are a company that automates deliberately, and we want that instinct here too.
Required
5+ years in HR operations or HR administration, including multi-state responsibility
Hands-on ownership of an HRIS - you configure and run it, you do not just enter data into it
Benefits administration experience in a multi-entity environment
Genuine command of employment compliance across state lines, and the judgment to know when to ask for help
Exceptional accuracy. This is a role where small errors reach people's paychecks and health coverage.
Discretion. You will hold confidential information every day.
Nice to Have
Paycom specifically
Field-based or distributed workforces - construction, installation, manufacturing, or a large contractor network
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
Has built HR reporting or dashboards themselves
Has taken a manual, paper-heavy HR process and automated it end to end
We hire top down. The technical foundation is the base of the pyramid - essential, and assumed.
We select on the three layers above it:
▲ Alpha / Lead - you take ownership and lead, with or without the title
▲ Positive Temperament - resilient and constructive; you lift the room rather than drain it
▲ Solution-Driven - you show up with answers, not just problems
▲ Skill Set - the technical foundation: essential and assumed, the base we build on, not the summit
For this role the third layer matters most. HR administration is a stream of problems arriving without warning, most of them affecting a real person having a real week. We want someone who solves them and then fixes the thing that caused them.
Finalists complete a short practical exercise - real scenarios of the kind you would face here, and how you would handle them. We are less interested in whether you know the policy than in how you think.
Base salary: $90,000+, commensurate with experience
Annual bonus target: discretionary
Medical, dental and vision insurance
Company-paid life insurance; voluntary supplemental life
Short- and long-term disability insurance
Health Savings Account
401(k) with a generous employer match
If you have been the person quietly holding a growing company's people operations together, and you want to do it somewhere that will invest in the systems rather than ask you to work around them - we would like to hear from you.
