Job Summary
We are seeking an Import Operations and Customs Specialist to manage import shipments from origin through final delivery while preparing and processing U.S. Customs entries. This role requires hands-on customs brokerage and entry writing experience, along with the ability to manage import files from documentation through billing and closing.
Job Responsibilities
Import Operations
Coordinate air, ocean, truck, and rail import shipments from origin through final delivery
Review and validate MBL, HBL, commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices, and other shipping documents
Track shipments and provide status updates to customers and overseas agents
Coordinate with carriers, terminals, truckers, and warehouses
Monitor demurrage, detention, and free-time exposure
Resolve shipment delays, discrepancies, and documentation issues
Maintain accurate shipment records in TMS and operational systems
Manage import files from initial documentation through billing and transaction closing
Customs Brokerage and Entry Writing
Prepare and transmit U.S. Customs entries through ACE
Classify merchandise using the HTSUS
Determine customs value and country of origin
Apply applicable tariff provisions, including Section 301, Section 232, IEEPA, AD and CVD, and 98 and 99 provisions
Calculate duties, taxes, and applicable customs fees
Respond to CBP inquiries and requests for information
Support Post Summary Corrections, protests, audits, and compliance reviews
Identify and escalate potential customs and compliance issues
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience in customs brokerage or related import operations
Hands-on experience with U.S. Customs entry writing
Experience handling air and ocean imports
Specialized training in air import and ocean import
Experience using ACE for customs entry processing
Familiarity with Descartes import software
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
