Low-Voltage Systems Designer (RCDD)

Location: Washington preferred; qualified candidates elsewhere in the Pacific Northwest may be considered
Work arrangement: Primarily work-from-home, with in-person site visits

An engineering design team is seeking an experienced Low-Voltage Systems Designer to develop communications, life-safety, and electronic security systems for new construction and renovation projects. This role is a fit for an RCDD who enjoys both hands-on technical design and coordination with architects, engineers, drafters, and clients.

Projects include existing facilities where the designer must understand site conditions, plan around construction constraints, and coordinate systems that may need to remain operational during renovations.

What You'll Do

  • Design structured cabling systems, telecommunications spaces, backbone and horizontal pathways, and grounding and bonding.

  • Develop layouts for systems such as fire alarm, access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, intercom, nurse call, and related low-voltage infrastructure.

  • Visit project sites to document existing conditions, check available drawings, and identify design constraints.

  • Prepare design markups and work with drafting staff to produce construction documents in Revit.

  • Write and edit technical specifications, including Division 27 and Division 28 sections, to match project requirements.

  • Coordinate low-voltage designs with other building systems and engineering disciplines.

  • Participate in design reviews and explain technical decisions to project teams and clients.

  • Support construction administration by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting periodic site observations.

What You'll Bring

  • Current BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification.

  • At least four years of low-voltage design experience with a consulting engineering firm or design-build contractor.

  • Experience preparing technical specifications and construction-document design packages.

  • Working knowledge of applicable telecommunications, electrical, and fire-alarm standards, including TIA standards, NFPA 72, the NEC, and BICSI design guidance.

  • Ability to create clear Bluebeam Revu markups for incorporation into Revit drawings.

  • Strong coordination and communication skills.

  • A valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites in Washington, generally about once per month.

Experience with public-sector projects, secure facilities, healthcare or behavioral health environments, and renovations of occupied buildings is especially valuable. Additional credentials in fire alarm, data centers, outside plant, or audiovisual design are a plus.

Benefits

Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid time off; a flexible schedule; and support for professional certification renewals and continuing education.
