Motion Systems Engineer

Location: Lake Mary, FL
Work Type: Full-Time, Onsite

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Motion Systems Engineer with a strong background in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics engineering and hands-on experience designing multi-axis precision motion systems.

The engineer will design and develop X/Y/Z linear and Theta/rotary motion systems for advanced laser processing and automation equipment, taking designs from concept through prototype, testing, and production.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design multi-axis X/Y/Z + Theta/rotary motion systems, stages, and gantries.

  • Select and integrate servo motors, linear motors, direct/magnetic drives, actuators, encoders, and motion controllers.

  • Develop 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and engineering designs.

  • Perform design calculations, component selection, and tolerance analysis.

  • Integrate motion systems with PLCs, robotics, and automation systems.

  • Troubleshoot, test, commission, and optimize motion systems.

  • Take engineering projects from concept → design → prototype → testing → production.

Main Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or related field.

  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Proven experience designing multi-axis precision motion systems.

  • Strong understanding of X/Y/Z linear and Theta/rotary-axis motion.

  • Hands-on experience with servo systems, drives, actuators, encoders, and motion controllers.

  • Strong CAD and engineering design skills.

  • Experience developing and testing equipment from concept through production.

  • Experience with linear motors, direct-drive, or magnetic-drive technology is highly desirable.

  • Robotics, automation, laser processing, CNC, or precision machinery experience is a plus.

Key screening requirement: Candidates must have hands-on multi-axis motion system design experience, not just general mechanical/electrical engineering experience.
