Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Shipyard Project Manager to oversee the safe and efficient execution of complex drydock, vessel repair, and maintenance projects for government clients. Responsible for project planning, manpower, subcontractors, scheduling, quality, safety, customer coordination, and contract performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review project specifications and develop comprehensive management plans covering manpower, subcontractors, timelines, and materials.

  • Ensure original work scopes are assigned to in-house personnel and subcontractor assignments are confirmed before project start.

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to maintain schedule and performance goals.

  • Develop and maintain Gantt/project schedules using Microsoft Project and adjust as required.

  • Identify potential change orders and growth work; coordinate strategy with supervisors and confirm additional work awards.

  • Coordinate with the Dockmaster to ensure safe vessel docking and undocking.

  • Lead daily production meetings with supervisors, management, and customer representatives.

  • Review supervisors' Plan of the Day submissions and make revisions to maintain schedule compliance.

  • Immediately report significant project inefficiencies or work items at risk of exceeding the performance period to management.

  • Oversee QA scheduling for inspections, checkpoints, and final signoffs.

  • Meet weekly with supervisors to verify work delegation, scope understanding, material orders, and timeline alignment.

  • Evaluate weekend manpower requirements based on remaining work scope and operational efficiency.

  • Prepare disciplinary documentation for substandard employee performance, particularly supervisory personnel, and nominate employees for Employee of the Month.

  • Participate in contract change-order negotiations and represent/justify company positions.

  • Delegate tasks to QA, Purchasing, and Estimating teams to streamline documentation and workflow.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing large-scale shipyard, drydock, and government vessel repair projects.

  • Experience with government clients and MSC/MARAD vessels strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project required.

  • Strong leadership, planning, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage complex operations in a high-intensity environment with strict deadlines.

  • Strong project scheduling, production, subcontractor, QA, and contract-management knowledge.

  • Ability to work weekends as required.
