Job Title: Quality Engineer - DOT Regulatory & Product Compliance

Location: Canton, OH 44705

Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire

Work Environment: In-Office / In-Field

Direct Reports: None

  • Lead Quality. Drive Compliance. Bring Products to Market.

  • We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to take ownership of quality, regulatory compliance, and U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) approval and certification processes for our manufactured products.

  • This is a highly visible, hands-on engineering role where you will serve as the primary technical owner for regulatory approvals, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, testing laboratories, and state DOT agencies.

  • You will help guide products through the complete lifecycle-from development and testing to regulatory approval and sustained production-while ensuring products consistently meet applicable quality, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements.

  • This is a production-focused individual contributor role with no direct reports, making it an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quality Engineer who enjoys technical ownership, cross-functional collaboration, regulatory work, and solving complex quality challenges.

What You'll Do:

  • DOT & Regulatory Compliance

  • Own the DOT approval and certification process from initial requirements through testing, submission, agency review, approval, and ongoing compliance.

  • Interpret applicable DOT, federal, state, and industry standards and specifications and translate them into product and manufacturing requirements.

  • Develop and manage regulatory approval and certification roadmaps, including schedules, milestones, testing requirements, documentation, and deliverables.

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact with DOT agencies, certification organizations, testing laboratories, and other regulatory stakeholders.

  • Coordinate qualification, validation, performance, durability, environmental, and other required product testing.

  • Prepare and/or oversee technical documentation, compliance reports, test plans, engineering reports, specifications, and regulatory submissions.

  • Maintain technical records and supporting evidence necessary to demonstrate ongoing regulatory compliance.

  • Support regulatory inspections, audits, customer quality reviews, and product certification renewals.

Quality Engineering & Manufacturing:

  • Partner with Product and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure products are manufacturable and consistently meet approved specifications.

  • Develop and implement quality plans, inspection criteria, control plans, process validation requirements, and production acceptance criteria.

  • Lead root-cause analysis, corrective actions, nonconformance investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Establish effective change-control and configuration-management systems to ensure design or manufacturing changes do not inadvertently invalidate regulatory approvals.

  • Develop supplier quality requirements and collaborate with suppliers to ensure incoming materials and components meet applicable specifications.

  • Identify quality and regulatory risks early and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs related to quality, compliance, approval cycle time, defects, corrective actions, and manufacturing process capability.

  • Drive cross-functional teams toward regulatory approval and production-readiness milestones.

What We're Looking For:

  • The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, technically capable Quality Engineer who can independently manage complex regulatory requirements while effectively coordinating with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in:

  • Quality Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Civil Engineering

  • Manufacturing Engineering

  • Materials Engineering

  • Or a related engineering discipline

  • 3-5+ years of experience in quality engineering, regulatory compliance, product certification, manufacturing quality, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience managing DOT, federal, state, or other regulatory approval/certification processes.

  • Experience working with government agencies, third-party testing laboratories, certification organizations, or regulatory bodies.

Strong understanding of:

  • Quality systems

  • Root-cause analysis

  • CAPA

  • FMEA

  • Control plans

  • Process validation

  • Statistical and process controls

  • Ability to translate engineering and regulatory requirements into practical manufacturing processes and quality controls.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, test standards, bills of materials, purchase orders, and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and keep projects moving toward regulatory deadlines.

  • Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and documentation skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate reliability.

Preferred Experience:

Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:

Infrastructure products

  • Transportation products

  • Construction products

  • Engineered materials

  • Regulated manufactured products

  • DOT product approvals

  • Government regulatory compliance

  • Product certification

  • Manufacturing quality

  • Experience with the following software is also preferred:

  • AutoCAD

  • SolidWorks

  • ERP systems

  • Epicor ERP is particularly desirable

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for someone who can confidently operate at the intersection of:

  • Engineering + Quality + Manufacturing + Regulatory Compliance

  • You should be comfortable working independently, digging into technical requirements, communicating with regulatory agencies and testing organizations, and coordinating internal teams to keep products moving toward approval and production.

  • If you enjoy owning complex projects, solving quality problems, navigating regulatory requirements, and seeing your work directly translate into approved and successfully manufactured products, this could be an excellent opportunity.

  • Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • This position requires the ability to work in both office and field/manufacturing environments.

  • Physical requirements may include:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Periods of walking throughout the facility or worksite

  • Working in environments with extreme temperatures

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • This role offers the opportunity to have significant technical ownership without the responsibilities of direct people management.

  • You will become a key resource for product quality, regulatory compliance, DOT approvals, and production readiness, working across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, testing organizations, and government agencies.

  • If you're ready to take ownership of critical quality and regulatory initiatives and make a measurable impact on manufactured products, we encourage you to apply.
