Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly analytical, and leadership-driven Senior Payroll Manager with strong construction industry payroll experience. The ideal candidate will oversee, streamline, and scale payroll operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing of end-to-end payroll functions.

The Senior Payroll Manager will partner closely with HR, Finance, and Legal and lead a payroll team of approximately 4 members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred

  • 7+ years of progressive payroll experience

  • 3+ years in a dedicated payroll management position

  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing and payroll accounting systems

  • Experience with payroll reconciliations

  • Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas, etc.

  • Experience preparing Form 940, Form 941, and W-2s

  • Strong experience with union payroll processing, reporting, compliance, audits, and union remittances

  • Construction industry experience preferred

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation highly desired

  • Experience with CMiC construction software preferred

  • Experience with Sage Timberline preferred

  • Payroll/system implementation experience preferred

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, including data input, validation, and payroll distribution

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a payroll team of approximately 4 employees

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations

  • Conduct payroll audits and identify/correct discrepancies

  • Ensure accuracy of employee records, tax withholdings, and compensation

  • Prepare and analyze payroll reports and payroll cost information

  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal, and other departments to resolve payroll-related issues

  • Utilize and optimize payroll software and technology

  • Evaluate and implement new payroll technologies and systems

  • Partner with HR on benefits administration, including health insurance and retirement contributions

  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll tax filings and statutory deductions

  • Perform payroll reconciliations and verify compensation records

  • Identify and implement process improvements and efficiency enhancements

  • Maintain strong accuracy, confidentiality, compliance, and operational controls throughout payroll operations
