The Senior Project Engineer provides technical engineering support to internal environmental, water, and fuels teams and external clients. The role covers engineering analysis, design, field investigations, technical reviews, project management, and report preparation from initial concept through project completion.
The position requires 10+ years of engineering experience, a bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, and an active Professional Engineer (PE) license. California PE certification is preferred, with the ability to obtain PE certification in other western U.S. states.
Prepare engineering drawings using AutoCAD or similar software and stamp drawings.
Design small- to medium-sized engineering projects.
Perform design involving:
Pipe flow
Storage and delivery systems
Geotechnical engineering
Foundation design
Anchoring
Work with materials including fiberglass, steel, concrete, and plastics.
Apply ASD and LRFD design methods.
Support projects involving:
Process systems
Fuel storage/delivery systems
Environmental remediation
Oil and natural gas systems
Civil improvements
Stormwater improvements
Wastewater systems
Conduct field investigations, conceptual modeling, code reviews, calculations, design, and technical report writing.
Communicate with clients, employees, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
Work with salespeople, drafters, and engineers to develop project concepts.
Prepare project proposals and presentation materials.
Prepare and modify plans and specifications for construction and bidding.
Coordinate engineering, drafting, clients, client managers, and regulatory agencies.
Coordinate with the Construction Department on design/build projects.
Identify and manage engineering, permitting, and design contractors.
Manage contractor agreements and approve payments.
Manage project budgets and invoicing.
Develop and review project deliverables for quality and accuracy.
Coordinate with field technicians.
Lead team and client meetings.
Review team-member status reports and resolve issues.
Communicate project information to management.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering, or related engineering field.
Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering design, technical review, and project management.
Licensure
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
California PE certification preferred.
Must be able to obtain PE certification in western U.S. states.
