Position Summary

The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for the layout, planning, fabrication, assembly, modification, repair, and maintenance of precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and master tooling used in a manufacturing environment.

The position requires the ability to work from engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD/CAM files, and specifications to produce precision components that meet required dimensions and tolerances. The Tool & Die Maker will operate a variety of conventional and CNC machine tools and perform fitting, grinding, polishing, inspection, and troubleshooting as required.

Key Responsibilities

Tool & Die Fabrication

• Fabricate, assemble, modify, and repair tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and master tooling.

• Plan the sequence of operations required to complete tooling and precision components.

• Produce finished components from engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and CAD/CAM files.

• Perform fitting, filing, grinding, polishing, and adjustment of tooling components to achieve proper fit and function.

• Modify existing tooling to improve performance, quality, and production efficiency.

• Troubleshoot and repair tooling-related issues.

Machine Tool Operation

• Set up and operate conventional, manual, CNC, and other computer-controlled machine tools.

• Operate equipment used to produce precision metal components and tooling.

• Select appropriate tooling, machining methods, speeds, feeds, and processes based on job requirements.

• Perform machine setup, adjustments, and teardown as required.

• Maintain accurate dimensions and tolerances throughout the machining process.

Blueprint & Technical Interpretation

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, specifications, and CAD/CAM files.

• Calculate and verify dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances.

• Apply knowledge of machining practices, fits, tolerances, and tooling requirements.

• Identify potential manufacturing issues and recommend appropriate solutions.

Inspection & Quality

• Inspect completed components and tooling for dimensional accuracy, defects, and proper fit.

• Use appropriate measuring and inspection equipment to verify specifications.

• Test completed tools and dies to ensure proper operation and performance.

• Make necessary adjustments or modifications to meet quality requirements.

• Maintain a strong focus on precision, quality, and workmanship.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow established safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.

• Comply with applicable OSHA requirements and company safety policies.

• Follow applicable ISO quality and compliance procedures.

• Report safety, quality, and environmental concerns to appropriate management.

• Participate in required safety, environmental, and compliance training.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

• High school diploma or GED.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in tool and die, jig and fixture, or a closely related manufacturing environment.

• Hands-on experience setting up and operating machine tools.

• Experience fabricating, assembling, repairing, or modifying tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, or master tooling.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.

• Demonstrated ability to produce finished components from engineering drawings or specifications.

• Strong understanding of machining processes, dimensions, and tolerances.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision.

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred

• CNC machining experience.

• CAD/CAM experience.

• Experience in a precision manufacturing environment.

• Knowledge of ISO-certified manufacturing environments.

• Experience with progressive or compound dies.

• Experience supporting stamping, machining, or assembly operations.

• Knowledge of GD&T.
