Overview:
The Traffic Engineer analyzes vehicle and pedestrian traffic conditions, and drafts and presents reports on findings.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assigning and reviewing work to Junior Traffic Engineers
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Studies traffic patterns and develops recommendations to improve traffic control.
· Collects data on road construction, land development, and traffic signals.
· Uses computer software to simulate the effects of using different materials in road construction or different signals.
· Analyzes the environmental impact of road construction.
· Plans traffic signal locations and timing systems.
· Designs pavement markings and traffic signals to improve traffic flow.
· Prepares and presents reports with traffic study findings.
· Prepares and presents reports with cost estimates for recommended improvements.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Extensive knowledge of road construction and design.
· Extensive knowledge of traffic control equipment and signals.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, and computer-aided design (CAD) and modeling software.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor's degree from an EAC/ABET-accredited program in engineering required.
· Licensure as professional engineer (PE) required.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
· Able to traverse various terrains to visit field sites.
· This position reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering
